The short version
Your files never leave your device. Every tool on Thendal opens, processes, and saves your files entirely inside your browser. We do not upload, receive, store, or transmit the contents of your files — there is no server that could. This is the core design of the site, and it is verifiable in your browser's network inspector.
Thendal is a website, though, and like most websites it uses analytics — and, when enabled in the future, advertising — which rely on cookies or similar identifiers. That is a separate matter from your files, and we describe it honestly below. We do not claim the site is tracker-free.
Your files
- Files you open are read and processed locally by your browser.
- File contents are never sent to us or to any third party.
- We never store your files. Closing the tab discards everything.
- We never place file contents or personal data in URLs or query strings.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-focused and does not use cookies or fingerprinting to track you across sites. It tells us aggregate things like which pages are visited, without identifying you.
Advertising (when enabled)
Thendal is free and is intended to be supported by display advertising. Advertising is not enabled yet. When it is, ad providers may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve and measure ads. If you are in the EEA or UK, we will ask for your consent through a consent banner before any non-essential advertising cookies are set, and you will be able to decline. This section, and the consent tools, will be updated at that time.
Local storage
We may store small preferences (such as your last-used output format) in your browser's local storage to make the tools nicer to use. This never contains your file contents and never leaves your browser.
Your choices
- You can clear the site's local storage from your browser settings at any time.
- When advertising is enabled, you will be able to change or withdraw consent via the banner.
- You can block scripts or use private browsing; the tools will still work.
