How to compress an image

1. Drop your images onto the box above, or click to choose them — add several to compress in one go.
2. Set a target max size (e.g. under 500 KB) and/or a max dimension in pixels.
3. Each image is compressed automatically, with its own progress bar and the percentage saved.
4. Click Download on a file, or Download all, to save the smaller versions.

Target size vs. maximum dimension — which to use

Target max size aims the compression at a file-size budget — handy when a form says "under 500 KB" or an upload keeps failing. Max dimension caps the longest side of the image in pixels, which is often the bigger win: a 4000-pixel photo scaled to 1920 pixels looks identical on a screen but is a fraction of the size. Use either, or both together.

Honest about limits

If an image is already small, the tool says so plainly rather than pretending to have helped — there's no point re-compressing something already efficient. Compression is also lossy for JPEG and WebP: pushing the size very low trades away visible quality, so pick the gentlest setting that meets your limit. For a photo you'll print, keep the dimension high; for the web, 1920 px is plenty.
